The NHS describes a phobia as “an overwhelming and debilitating fear of an object, place, situation, feeling or animal” and that it is “a type of anxiety disorder”.

It feels so real, so scary yet you know it is irrational. It doesn’t make sense to you; you feel so out of control. It doesn’t matter that you tell yourself it’s only a harmless little spider, or you have to do a presentation and you have done it well so many times before, you are still scared, still frightened. You feel silly and do not want other people to know of your fear or your phobia, even your nearest and dearest. How great would it be to rid yourself of that fear or phobia?

The symptoms experienced when presented with the fear object or situation may include dizziness, nausea, sweating, increased heart rate or palpitations, shortness of breath, trembling or shaking – as with a panic attack.

How can therapy help manage fears and phobias?

Hypnotherapy, along with NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) is extremely effective in helping to rid you of those fears and phobias. It provides a positive intervention and removes the fear or phobia from the emotional parts of the brain. This helps you to keep a positive perspective and give you back control.
